Bigfoot Encounters:
9/10/04: David Hunt, Joey DiPaolo and Fred E were hiking and
camping on the Appalachian Trail in the Hot Springs North Carolina area when
they had an encounter with the elusive Bigfoot. While on their 50 mile 4 days/3
nights hiking adventure they were at the mercy of the rain and storms the
entire adventure, but the excitement from being out in elements for the 4 days
made it even more adventurous than any hike before.
On the 2nd
night of the adventure the 3 hikers were settled into a small open face wooden
shelter for the night. The storm had picked up with the rain and wind pummeling
the small shelter, the time was about 2 am when the encounter started. From a
distance the 3 men could hear something large walking up from the spring, which
was down about 1500 feet directly in front of the front of the shelter. The
animal was grunting and groaning all the way up to the trail until it reached
the shelter, standing about 30 feet from the front of the shelter. The men had
turned the picnic table on its side and used it to block the front of the
shelter from the large animal. They had their firearms ready to go if the
animal was to enter the shelter and try to harm the group.
The animal
circled the shelter 3 times before the men could target it with the flashlight.
What they saw that night they describe as a large animal standing 7 feet and
walking on 2 legs with the body of a bear and the head of a man.
10/17/10: Patty M and Julie B were camping at the Jerry
Cabin shelter 20 miles north of Hot Springs North Carolina when they had an
encounter with the creature called Bigfoot. The 2 women had set their tents up
in the open about 1000 feet from the shelter. They had emptied all food from
their backpacks and then put it in food bags and carried the food bags with
them as they walked to the shelter to have dinner with the other hikers at the
shelter. At the shelter they met the founders of Bigfoot Camping Adventures,
David Hunt and Joe DiPaolo, and other hikers. After everyone had dinner and
sat around the fire for awhile the 2 women decided to head back to their open
tent site, it was right after sunset and just getting dark enough to have to
use head lamps.
A couple of
minutes later the 2 women came back to the shelter screaming and yelling for
help because something like a bear but was not a bear ran off with Patty’s
backpack. The 2 girls told the other hikers that as they returned to their
tents they noticed what they thought was a bear by their tent, but when they
startled it the creature stood upright on 2 legs and ran off with the backpack.
The women described it as being like a large bear on 2 legs with the face of a
man.
David Hunt,
Joe DiPaolo and a few other hikers all looked for her backpack that night and
the next morning, but no luck. We had to make the girl a backpack out of her
tent cover because she still had all of her supplies. She had emptied everything
out of her backpack except for her phone, her wallet, keys to her car, soap and
15 cliff bars. (See the video on Youtube via our Youtube channel)
