1.A good
backpack that has both shoulder straps and waist belt. Must have plenty of
room. Walmart has a good selection that is also affordable. I prefer the
Coleman Max series.
2.A good
pair of running/all terrain shoes. No hiking boots.
3.A 10’ X
12’ tarp and some nylon string 100’ or a light weight tent. The tarp is less
weight and can be used in many different ways.
4.Sleeping
bag rated for 30-35 degrees. If it gets
colder then we put all of our socks and clothes on. We will not freeze.
5.1 lighter,
1 small knife, a small headlamp.
6.1 tin cup
and a strong spoon/fork. For heating your oatmeal and Ramon noodles and then
eating out of. I have a small stove and fuel for all to use.
7.Food
for 4 days: Breakfast-8
small packages of oatmeal. Lunch- 4 6-7 ounce bags of Tuna or
Salmon. Dinner- 4 bags of Ramon noodles. Snacks: 8
small p-nut butter cups and 1 pound of trail mix, maybe small bag of beef
jerky. The menu is best if kept simple and lightweight and easy to burn or
carry back out the garbage.
8.A 2 liter
water bladder.
9.Tooth
brush and paste, camping toilet paper 4 small rolls, band-aides and blister
pads.
10.Clothes: You will be wearing 1 pair of hiking
clothes to start with which include sports shirt, sports shorts, sports
underwear, sports socks and a bandana. Extra clothes in backpack:
1 pair of sports shorts, 1 sports shirt, 3 sports underwear, 3 sports socks, 1
light weight rain/cold jacket with hood, 1 pair of nylon sports pants, a pair
of gloves to keep your hands warm, a knitted cap or something to keep your
head/ears warm and 2/3 bandanas.
11.A
backpack cover or a large trash bag will work.
12.A small
bag with 1 change of clothes and personal supplies for use before we enter the
mountains and after we get out, keep it small.
13.I have
walking sticks for everyone, but you may want some biking gloves while using
the sticks.
Walmart
should have everything that you need. It is very important not to bring more
than I just listed and keep the pack no more than 25- 30 lbs.
This should
do it for supplies and get back with me if you have any questions.
